Most "the download is broken" messages we get are not broken downloads. They are three specific, fixable things, and they happen in the same order every time.
Get the file from Borneo, not from a forum
The official setup lives on updateborneo.com and is mirrored on Mega, Google Drive and MediaFire. Those are the only three links we publish on our download page, and we deliberately do not host a copy ourselves.
Repacked builds circulating on forums are the single most common cause of login failures. Sometimes they are simply older versions renamed; sometimes they are modified. Neither is worth the fifteen seconds you save.
Install the runtime first, not second
Borneo Schematics draws its whole interface through Microsoft Edge WebView2. If that runtime is missing or older than version 149, the installer completes without complaint and the application closes about a second after launch, with no error dialog at all.
It looks exactly like a corrupt download, which is why people re-download three times before asking. Install the official Borneo Runtime Installer first — it bundles WebView2, .NET Framework 4.8 and the Visual C++ redistributables — then reboot, then install the app.
Whitelist the folder before extracting
Repair tooling trips heuristic antivirus scanners as a matter of routine. It is not a sign that anything is wrong with the file; it is a sign that the scanner recognises the shape of low-level hardware software.
Add the install directory to your exclusions before you extract. A half-quarantined install is considerably harder to diagnose than a blocked one, because the app exists, launches, and then fails somewhere unrelated-looking.
Then sign in with the right account
The licence attaches to the Borneo username given at checkout. If you paid and still see an unlicensed session, check which account you are signed in as before assuming the activation failed — that is the answer far more often than not.
Requirements worth checking first
- Windows 10 64-bit build 19045 or newer, or Windows 11 64-bit. Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 will not run it at all.
- 4 GB RAM minimum, 8 GB if you want it to feel comfortable.
- Edge WebView2 Runtime 149 or newer.
- A stable connection — the library loads over the network.
